Since I met this kid a couple years back while we were research interns together at Brown University, when he passed me his ipod and had me listen to a couple of his beats while we ate burritos, I knew he was something special. His beats aren’t smooth beats you can bump and vibe to. MALIK makes rough and a-tonal beats; leaving you with feelings of both nostalgia and angst. These densely layered beats take you out of reality into this heavy dark industrial realm where everything is on fire and there is no social order. Homeboy’s beats are so Avant Garde it’s crazy.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
MALIK s from Connecticut, living in NYC, but his beats are definitely a product of his family’s connection to Brooklyn. A lot of his stuff is influenced by the old school NY production greats (Premo, RZA, etc.), but also works in some more contemporary influences (EL-P, SpaceghostPurrp, Travi$ Scott, and Zomby). It all comes together as some really grimy, forward thinking, and lo-fi NY beats..
